Homemade Baby Gifts

April 26, 2011 by Bethany Sy

This past weekend, my mom threw me a baby shower. I was so blessed by all the women that came to show their love and shower our future babies with gifts!!! While we’re so thankful for every gift, we can’t feature every single one on the blog… but I really wanted to highlight some of the homemade gifts. Creating a gift with your hands adds such a special sentimental touch, and allows the receiver to know that lots of time and love went into making it possible.

I’ll start off with my mom’s gifts… she made these two little patchwork animals for the girls. What’s special about these is that she uses pieces of fabric that have meaning from over the years. Some were from when she was a little girl, one patch is from my prom dress, one patch is an old table cloth that got lots of use, and there are several patches that use fabric from the nursery! Including the curtain fabric, bed skirt eyelet fabric, and a paisley fabric we’re using for the bumper (which we’ll post this week). SO cute right? It’s hard to tell in these photos, but the lion is pale pink and white.

Next up we have burp cloths from my sister-in-law Kelly! She embellished each on with this adorable paisley ribbon in 4 different colors! How functional yet fashionable! And snaps for Kelly who’s learning to use her sewing machine! It makes me feel better that I’m not the only one stumbling through teaching myself to sew. She documented her journey on her blog. She did a great job! Thanks Kelly!

And here we have these little stocking hats that were knit by my other sister-in-law Carrie! Can you believe how cute they are? And that she MADE these? Ok, but here’s the kicker… scroll down and see the little cocoons that were knit to match! HELLO! I think I just died. I can’t wait for newborn pics. My girls are already so spoiled. And I didn’t even know Carrie could knit! Stay tuned for an Etsy shop!

My Aunt J’Neane crocheted two highly time consuming and inexplicably soft blankets for the girls. Who knew I had so many talented relatives? I love the patterns, the colors, the texture. They’re just so perfect.

A long-time family friend, Diana, made these fuzzy flannel blankets, with beautiful stitching and fun flannel fabric. I love that they’re similar but not too matchy matchy. One has yellow and one has pink. Thanks Diana, for your labor of love!

And finally, we got a couple sets of fluffy fleece blankets… the knotty kind. SO comfy and awesome. These first ones are from my cousin Angel… they’re slightly on the larger side so the girls can grow into them and use them for years to come!

And these two fleece blankets come from my long time friend Lindsay, who’s known for her brightly colored, beautiful fleece creations. I just love the combo of hot pink and orange! Can’t wait to snuggle my little girls up in all these wonderful blankets!!

Thanks again to everyone who has given a gift (handmade OR store bought!) to our little ladies. We’re so blessed to have such generous and talented family and friends. THANK YOU!
