Christal had a special request for us… she wanted an aged brick backsplash for her “Pottery Barn meets rustic” home to be completed before her hubby comes home from Afganistan on July 3 as a surprise! And I’m not gonna lie… having never tackled ‘aged brick’ I was a little nervous and did a lot of Google Image research on old brick.
Here’s Christal’s before shot:
Nick did some research of his own… to determine exact brick and grout dimensions so it could be as close to genuine brick as possible. This meant cutting down painters tape since our typical quarter inch tape wouldn’t do!
And with a TON of various red paints, we started experimenting with color combos and other techniques to make the bricks look as old as possible!
It turned out awesome! And Christal loved it too! She can’t wait to show her hubby when he arrives home!
OK, gotta be honest. Craftsmanship is admirable, the customer is always right, etc. But couldn’t you talk her out of that DREADFUL brick pattern? It looks like every house built in 1973. Dark, dated, and awful. You couldn’t pay me to have that in my kitchen. I love the one in your own kitchen, however.
Sorry.
You painted each brick individually? I think I love you…and your kitchen!
Absolutely gorgeous!! What paints are these? I wish you lived even within a day’s drive of us! Our kitchen is almost identical and this would be perfect!
