Tutorial: Mudding Drywall {Part 1}

December 17, 2012 by Bethany Sy

Today we’re doing things a little different for our ‘Mudding Drywall Tutorial’. We decided that some things are just better explained as a demonstration on video! So we swallowed our pride and put our silly-selves on film (ok so it’s mostly silly-Nick)! This will be the first in a 3-video series over the next couple of weeks, giving you the info (and hopefully CONFIDENCE) you need to tackle a ... [ Read More ]

20 Simple DIY Projects for UNDER $20! (Great Homemade Gift Ideas!)

December 6, 2012 by Bethany Sy

Good morning! Don’t you look radiant this morning! Wouldn’t it be delightful if someone said that to you every morning? Bed-head and all? Instead of, ‘babe, I think you’ve been wearing that shirt all week’. Christmas cards from family and friends have been trickling in, although we haven’t decorated for the holidays yet (getting the tree this weekend), I broke out our DIY Photo Wreath! This was ... Tutorial: Photo Lighting for Staging DIY Furniture

December 3, 2012 by Bethany Sy

Yesterday I was looking at Pinterest, and noticed that someone had pinned the very first buffet we overhauled, 2.5 years ago. With it being one of our very first furniture transformations, I was sooooo proud of this piece… and honestly I still am! BUT, I cringe when I look back at my furniture-photographing-skills. YIKES! There are so many things wrong with this photo. It’s no secret that I’m ... [ Read More ]

Tutorial: DIY Painted Buffet w/ a Chevron Pattern

November 26, 2012 by Bethany Sy

How do you like that for a title… so creative, I know. Sooo HI! I finally finished a piece of furniture to share. It’s been awhile, huh? Things have been slow-moving (understatement of the century) as we’ve been working away on Operation: WALL BE GONE, and chasing our two enthusiastic toddlers. It’s like they siphon my energy and add it to their already extensive supply. We bought a buffet from ... [ Read More ]

Tutorial: Installing a Light Fixture

November 19, 2012 by Bethany Sy

Hey hey, Nick here, coming at you from a technical side. Lets talk electricity… more specifically wiring a light fixture! We often get comments from readers discouraged to take the leap in the DIY world because of their lack of experience.  Well let me tell you folks we don’t have it all figured out! As a matter of fact, most DIY’ers don’t.  When we run into a problem, we Google it or read a book ... [ Read More ]

TUTORIAL~ Paint an old chandy the RIGHT WAY!

November 8, 2012 by Bethany Sy

OK, there are painted chandeliers everywhere these days. And y’all have to admit that a bright pop of color can bring an old brassy ‘typical’ chandelier into the 21st century, and seriously brighten up any space! So when Molly asked us to brighten up a couple chandy’s for her new photography studio, we thought this would be a great opportunity to throw down a tutorial! When you’re planning ... [ Read More ]

Etching Baby Food Jars for SPICES!

October 19, 2012 by Bethany Sy

Last night, my girl Dana came over for a little convo and crafting. With Nick working second shift, it’s a special treat to have a friend come over in the evening, and even more special when we get to be creative together! And even MORE special when she brings Funfetti Cake mix and Smirnoff Cherry Limeade. Yep, that happened. It was a delicious mess. After cleaning up our disaster in the ... [ Read More ]

Long-Awaited Intro to our PAINT GUN!

September 5, 2012 by Bethany Sy

Our new friend Nick (ironic!) had purchased this end table from us a few months back. He recently contacted us with a new job! He had a coffee table, end table, and a long/low unit that he wanted us to paint to look like a ‘set’. The coffee table and end table are already siblings, but that other piece isn’t even a distant cousin. He wanted to use the long/low table-ish thing as a TV stand, and ... [ Read More ]

Doily Bowls using Fabric Stiffener

August 30, 2012 by Bethany Sy

…So we got this cute little snacky 3-tired-bowl thingy as a wedding gift back in the day. I can't find this exact 3-tiered stand anymore, but here's a similar one! (this post contains affiliate links) Having had some doilies lying around (I love doilies!), I thought it would be fun to try my hand at making doily bowls in various sizes to fit perfectly into the openings! And the existing ... [ Read More ]

Leah’s Woodgrain Desk ~ Step-by-Step Instructions!

August 9, 2012 by Bethany Sy

This is kinda old news, but remember how we did this little end table for Leah a few weeks ago? Well I almost forgot to post about it, but we did a drop-leaf desk for her as well! Here’s the before pic: She loved this mural we painted for her friend Brenda, and wanted the same design on her desk… only with woodgrain! So we started by sanding everything down, and putting a thick coat of poly on ... [ Read More ]

Every night at dinner, I sit in the dining room st Every night at dinner, I sit in the dining room staring at this credenza… wishing it was more sophisticated/moody and less farmhouse. Why did it take me so long to do something about it?!

I partnered up with my friends at @dutchboypaints to use their Color of the Year to give this bad boy a total makeover with just one coat of paint! This moody “Ironside (422-7DB)” is exactly what it needed. It has a whole new personality now, and I’m loving it! Be sure to check out Dutch Boy paint at your local @menardshomeimprovement (R)
