Bob’s Surprise Visit

June 13, 2010 by Bethany Sy

After my pathetic post about our burn barrel issue, Nick’s dad took it upon himself to scout out a new burn barrel for us… because he just that kinda guy! After successfully hustling one from Nick’s Grandpa Morrison, Bob (Nick’s dad) felt so inclined to drive it right on over to our homestead, all unannounced! This would have been no big deal… if it hadn’t been a 125 mile drive! It would have been terrible if he’d driven all this way and we hadn’t been home!!!
It was a lovely surprise, and a welcome visit! He’s such a sweet man with a big heart, and we enthusiastically accepted his offering… the burn barrel. He even brought their black lab, Riley, to play with Reuben!
Bob and Nick got right to work drilling holes in the burn barrel… I’m not clear on why that’s necessary, but I trust the farm boys to know their stuff.  He didn’t stay long, but it was sure a pleasant surprise! Thanks Bob!

I know this is old, but it showed up as a “you might also like” and I did like 🙂

The holes are to let air in from more than just the top so that it is harder for the fire to smother itself. Very important for any burn barrel or fire pit
