A New Tradition… Christmas Tree ‘Shopping’

November 20, 2012 by Bethany Sy

How many of you have been around here long enough to remember this post about me whining about having an artificial Christmas tree?

I’ll have you know, we took the plunge…

Before you judge us for decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving, know that we just went tree ‘shopping’ and chose our tree, without cutting it down YET. Think of it as Layaway.

We went to Poweshiek Pines, and they had TONS of trees to choose from. The girls loved exploring and checking out the trees. We just kinda let ‘em go! It was adorable to watch.

When we found THE ONE, I tried to capture a picture of Nick with the girls in front of our tree… but, well I’ll just show you.

Crazy little children. I suppose it didn’t help that we had them looking straight into the sun. I’m thinking that NO 16-month-old is photogenic. But I’ll show you someone who is photogenic… UGHHHH

Moving right along!

Once we tagged our tree of choice, we started the trek back to our vehicle. This might be my most favoritist picture of Paisley and her daddy. Just Precious.

Delly had other plans though. She loves to do exactly the opposite of what we want her to do.

The Christmas Tree farm had Reindeer! No joke…

I love making memories with my family, and starting traditions that we can look forward to each year. It was totally worth them missing a nap.

Look forward to a sequel to this post when we cut down and decorate our tree! Till then, we’re going to focus on being thankful. Today I’m thankful for my family. I will be tomorrow and the next day and the next day too.blank-001

Hi, Bethany! Accidentally discovered your blog when looking for options rework old dresser. Then I forgot about my chest! I really liked your blog! You’re very frank, intelligent, talented girl with a great sense of humor. God be with you and your whole family! When my son Alexander was little, our family also had a tradition of dressing the Christmas tree. But since my husband and I we were very sorry to cut down the tree, we bought a small Christmas tree in the tub with the ground. Dressed it, and periodically watered. After the holidays, we removed the decorations and it was with us until spring. In spring, we planted it in the forest, as near our country house is very little land. Sorry for the broken English, I know English very bad, believe me, I have not written in Russian any bad word. Best regards for you and your family from Alla from Kiev, Ukraine!
