2-Year Willow Photos

July 26, 2013 by Bethany Sy

Nick and I both love willow trees… so when the girls were born, we planted a baby willow tree for each of them. And last year we took pictures of the girls with their willow trees.. and decided to make a tradition of it!

We almost forgot this year, which is why we’re 3 weeks behind. A couple of our loyal readers actually reminded us! Crack me up. I love you guys.

Here’s their 1-year pics from last year: (we didn’t do a very good job of getting the whole tree in these pics… we were just lucky to get them to be still for 5 seconds, and considered it a win):

And here’s their pics this year!

Plant a tree the year your baby is born, and then take a picture of them with it every year on their birthday! {Sawdust and Embryos}

(clearly, by the griege shade of the grass, we could use a little rain here in the midwest)

The trees haven’t grown much, but the girls have! I have a feeling the trees will end up winning in the long run. The sisters were pretty confused about why we plopped them next to a tree and told them to hang onto the trunk and SMILE!!!!!!! Not so much…

Can’t wait for next years’ picture!Bethany {Sawdust and Embryos}

    I super love this idea! Willow trees are beautiful and I’m sure the girls (who are also beautiful and growing so fast!) will love the idea that they have their own willow tree when they get older. First time commenter/visitor her btw, and I just want to tell you that I LOVE your projects! I’m a super-organizer myself (though not a blogger) and you have fun, cute ideas and are really original and different. I’m so excited to keep looking through! 🙂

    I LOVE TREES! I know they don’t realize it now, but I bet they will grow up with major attachments to their trees and nature. It’s beautiful. I was always found in and under trees when I was little. Climbing them was my biggest stress-reliever as a teenage. Just call me polyana. haha… But I really do love these pictures. CUTE CUTE CUTE!

    I remember when you planted them, I’ve been checking in for a long time now. I actually was a reader when you told your family you were preggers! They are growing up so fast. Happy Birthday girls. Mary in NY

      Mary! You’re definitely an honorary Aunt for the girls! If you lived closer, we’d invite you over to BBQ!

    Since you now have a “smart” phone with a calendar on it, you should schedule an appointment with a reminder to take the picture next year. I use the calendar on my phone all the time for little reminders like this and for “real” appointments. America….let’s put our smart phones to work and make them do our thinking for us! haha!!

      Thanks for the suggestion… I’m totally doing that! That first week in July is ALWAYS crazy with 4th of July camping, my birthday, and the twins’ birthday. I definitely need a reminder to do things like take pics with the willows! 🙂

    Willow trees can grow 8 feet a year with enough water!! We love Willow trees and named our daughter Willow rose, when we bought our first home last year the first thing we did was plant a Willow as well. It grew about 8 feet since last year, I always give it extra water.
    🙂

      Hyla, GOOD THOUGHT! We should definitely be watering them more, especially with this dry summer we’re experiencing. Thanks for the tip!
