Thrifting

April 7, 2010 by Bethany Sy

After reading the following post, you’re sure to learn a few personal things about me:

  • although I hate shopping, I love a good deal
  • I’m a sucker for things that could be described as either ‘orange’ or ‘vintage’… preferably both
  • I adore my mother-in-law
While my husband was bonding with his dad and our newly acquired (free) Chevy Silverado… his mom, Diane, and I made our way toward civilization for a little thrift store grazing. On a normal day, I like shopping about as much as I like my current migraine. But on this day, I was excited to be spending time developing a relationship with my mother-in-law, and find some serious bargains.
It felt really good to allow myself a little room for spendage. I had to say to myself “seriously? Buying this 79 cent picture frame is NOT going to prevent you from saving $12,000 to conceive a child.” and “your husband needs this tie, because let’s be honest… it’s orange AND vintage!” He loves it by the way….
And, my favorite purchase… at 89 cents… this AWESOME hand-towel that now completes my already obnoxiously orange kitchen. I absolutely love it!!!

I also purchased a pair of perfect condition, miraculously size 13, gray leather Puma shoes for the man-boy. He loved them just enough to accidentally leave them at his parents house at the end of the weekend. In his defense, we tend to ALWAYS leave something important behind when leaving his parents… it’s inevitable. 🙂

Your are really earning the brownie points with this blog. I am not sure that I have ever been adored before. I did really enjoy our bonding time as we shopped for vintage collectables. Did you find the perfect spot for your bowls? I am still in search of the best spot for my 39 cent Longaburger basket. I look forward to doing this with you again.

    Love,
    Diane
