So despite the looming illness in our family, we’ve been slowly plugging away at the wainscoting (board and batten) in the living room! It helps when you’re excited about a project. Makes us want to get it finished so we can bask in the glory of all our hard work! Having furniture all over the middle of the room is also good incentive to get things finished! Here’s where we stand right about now. The board and batten is up, mudded, sanded, primed and painted white. We love the dimension and architectural interest it adds to this room.
Please consider ignoring the beige door that leads to our studio. Fact is, I FORGOT (believe it or not) to paint the door white when I painted the trim white back in the day. AND AGAIN when we painted the wainscoting. I’m a natural blonde.
We’re still planning on adding some crown moulding to the top to make it feel more finished, and to provide the added benefit of a little shelfy thing for me to put picture frames and such. Kinda like this:

I love this. We are planning on doing this in our dinning room. We also have textured walls and were debating on covering the walls or just framing them like you did.
I love it. It looks fantastic. We eventually want to tear out walls and open up our place, but unfortunately we have to put in a beam first and in order to do that we need to replace the roof. It will be a while for sure.
And I will babysit if needed for that project…or any project that requires your full attention for a period of time.
Looks great! you really make me want to purchase a router….. PS how do you determine if its a load bearing wall?
Looks great! You will love your new open space once that wall is down! Looking forward to seeing the finished product!
You will not regret it. We also took a wall out of our old farmhouse between the kitchen and dining room. Opened up the whole first floor. Excited to see the progress.
