Now at 14 weeks, the babes are about the size of a lime! And my baby belly can no longer be confused with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I’ve been instructed to eat as much as possible, as often as possible… and I do! Trying to eat an additional 1000 calories a day is not an easy task, but eating cheesecake for breakfast every morning should be helping me out on this venture. It’s a small price to pay for the good of my offspring.
My college friend Crystal and I have been emailing a lot, and she’s been sharing tons of twin knowledge. Her twin girls just turned one! So the adventures of twin babies are fresh on her mind. She also thought to send me her twin books! Who knew that books were even written specifically for twin parents?! I’m about halfway through the Twinspiration book, and it’s SO interesting! And helpful! And I’ve started adding TW to the beginning of any word that begins with IN… it’s such a TWINformative book! Not to mention TWINteresting! Now that I spell that out, it’s kind of annoying.
We had an OB appt yesterday, and all is well! Sadly we didn’t have an ultrasound at this visit, but we got to hear their heartbeats, and that was enough for now. I’ve been really emotional lately, and even the smallest things make me cry. Like when I think about how excited I am to meet our little duo. I just can’t wait to hold them. That’s all.
I don’t have twins, but am currently pregnant AND breastfeeding my daughter so I need about 1000 extra calories a day as well. I’m starving constantly! I eat a lot of meat, eggs, whole milk, peanut butter, homemade ice cream, and other very high fat or protein foods. I can tell you that I’ve barely gained any weight this time around, compared to when I was just pregnant and eating low fat stuff. Your body desperately needs fat and protein to build babies.
Hope things continue to go well for you!
Hey Bethany!
You look like you are doing WONDERFULLY gestating your little “limes!” Congratulations on your twin pregnancy. and I cannot tell you how happy I am that you are finding Twinspiration interesting!
Truly, it was a labor of love to put it all to paper. Wishing you all the very, very best—-and a happy and healthy pregnancy and meeting with those two precious babes.
check out the award i’m giving you!!!

Your bump is adorable! I wanted to expand upon the eating extra. Keep in mind and even talk to your Dr about this if you so choose… but HCG (the pregnancy hormone) allows your body to open up it’s abnormal fat cells so that you don’t have to consume extra calories to nourish you and the babies. Also remember that diets high in sugar can contribute to pre eclampsia or possible gestational diabetes. If you do in fact need to consume more calories make sure they are in veggies and healthy fats like nuts, avocado’s, lean meats and cooked fish.
I swore I would never be the person offer unsolicited advice but I guess all my Doula training ingrained it into me! lol I would still like to become a midwife once my kids are all in school =) Just ignore me if you don’t find the info useful haha.
Oh and if you’re looking for a good read try Vicki Iovine’s Girlfriends guide to pregnancy. It’s not about twins but it’s the funniest most down to earth book about pregnancy you will find! Just like talking to your best friend.
you look adorable!!! why do you have to eat so much more? my doctor told me to watch what i eat and try not to gain to much weight, and to stay way from too much animal fat. just wondering if it’s a twin thing?
you should def tape the heat beat! you could post it for all of us. congrats again to you and Nick!! xx
Next time you go to your ob visit, bring along a tape recorder and record the twins’ heartbeats. I did this, only once, but wish I would’ve done that EVERY time. After my twins were born, they loved listening to their heartbeats, it seemed to calm them down.It wouldv’e been better to have a longer recording. Who knows? Maybe for a while they remembered what they were hearing in utero!
that bump looks good on you!! Luckily, with 2 – your bump is evident MUCH sooner! Enjoy the rapid expansion 🙂 It’s FINALLY your turn!
Do you remember that phase where I added “tacular” to the end of all sorts of words? I say do what makes you happy, annoy people. It’s fun.
Bethany, I have twin boys that are two and the book I would recommend is Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Twins by Dr. Marc Weissbluth. Good book to read BEFORE the babies get here and the sleep deprivation!! It helped me!
