Tim and Carrie’s Backsplash

September 13, 2010 by Bethany Sy

Well, it’s Monday… but the good new is, we have a new backsplash to share!! And this one was certainly not a chore. (even without the free pizza and beer!!). It was for my little bro and his wife, in their brand new kitchen… in their brand new house!! They’ve been homeowners for 3 days now, and have been busily unpacking and arranging things throughout their homestead. Though their 107 year old home is in excellent shape, there are a few things on their list of improvements that are taking a priority. One such thing is the very white, very sterile kitchen. Oh the possibilities!

And they asked us to be guided by this color palate.

So we swooped in, taped things up… and bingo! Still a light and airy kitchen, but sporting some serious character, visual interest, and a conversation piece!!

The tiles just SO happened to fall perfectly centered over the sink… and it was too perfect a setup to not do something a little different on that wide open wall. (Ok ok, it was Nick’s idea). The compliant homeowners agreed to it with a little skepticism. But I think/hope they love the result!!

We just love the character that it adds.

Thanks for your generous contribution to our baby fund, guys. Seriously.

Ok, seriously.

I was pretty proud of this idea when it came into my head, but they were EVEN YUMMIER than I expected! Kid and adult approved!

And since there’s no syrup needed, they’re basically healthier than regular pancakes, right? RIGHT?! 👊

This year, instead of petunias, I decided to use Million Bells (sometimes called mini petunias or Calibrachoa) because they don’t have to be deadheaded constantly. I’m so excited to see how they do! 🌸 Find the tutorial for this planter by doing a Google search for “Reality Daydream Petunia Planter” and build your own!! 🙌
