I’ve been challenging myself to get a little more familiar with my sewing machine. Sure, I can hem a skirt, or make VERY BASIC curtains, but other than that… I’m pretty clueless. It’s true.
So a couple days ago, I was browsing my OWN Pinterest page believe it or not (isn’t it so easy to pin something and never look at it again?), and I fell upon these adorable sprocket pillows I had pinned several months ago…
SO cute, right? Using Sew Cluck Sew’s tutorial (HERE), I got right to work! I decided to use fabric from some awesome vintage granny curtains (4 panels!) that my friend Wendy picked up for me at a garage sale for .50 cents. My friends know me so well! Major bargain, genuine vintage… AND it’s orange!! Also, it smells like granny. My fave.
I followed Allison’s Tutorial to the letter… and she laid it out so simply and easy, even the most clueless beginner (ME!) can pull this one off!! I took some progression photos so you could see how obnoxiously easy it really is…
It turned out a little rough, but I’m still super proud of myself! And I think I’ll be making more of these in the near future!
Are you “sew” proud of me? OK… wow. I did just say that. Yep.
Next time I’m going to use a larger button I think.
Delly loves it.
Have you guys actually tackled anything of the DIY variety from your Pinterest? Do you share in my Pinterest guilt for pinning-and-then-forgetting-all-about-it?
Looks fantastic! Great job! Plus I love that it matches all your other orange stuff 🙂
I am sew proud of you, Bethany. You will tackle pretty much anything. Way to go, girl!
Love,
Dad
Great job, I love this, sell this on your esty site! I loved to sew when he kiddo’s were little, not so much anymore. Mary in NY
I’ve always wanted to make one of these! I love Cluck Cluck Sew. I’m thinking of going to the thrift store and picking up some fabrics now! If only I could find some chicken-themed fabric, or make my own… 🙁
These are awesome. I love the orange. I’ve got some old skirts of my grandma’s that are way too tiny for anyone I know to actually wear. Maybe I should do this with them!
Love the pillow!
I wish Pinterest had a function where you could click “DONE” to let people know that you really tried a project! A review button would be even more helpful (so you could say whether a tutorial or recipe–the main reasons I use Pinterest–was actually helpful/easy to follow)! I thought of you this past week while I was DIYing a dresser and painting 🙂
For your first attempt, that pillow looks awesome! Sewing will get better the more you do it. I am an obsessive pinner also! However, I have made several meals with receipes that I have pinned and most of them have become a staple in my families menu. I have not yet tried too many “hands on” projects other than framing a builder grade mirror in our bathroom and painting stripes on my bathroom wall. Those projects did turn out great so I do plan to do more.
LOVE this!!! Good job!!!!
I had the same thought. Why should I pin them if I have no intention of making them, so we have made a few recipes and I just put my deck chairs and end table on my front porch this morning, idea coming from this here site

We only made two of the chairs and one end table and with burnt orange cushions from Target. I’ll have to send pictures later.
Nice job! I have a sewing machine that’s only been out of the box 3 or 4 times. I need to take your lead and try out some projects!
I’m definitely guilty of pinning and forgetting.
