On THIS Mother’s Day

May 5, 2013 by Bethany Sy

I don’t talk about infertility a lot anymore, but that’s not because it doesn’t weigh heavily upon my heart. I began to realize that my empathy wasn’t allowing me to fully enjoy my two remarkable blessings with my whole being.

I choose to allow myself a healthy heartache… without living in the past.

My family deserves that.

For the past year, I’ve been thinking about how I would write this post; to honor ‘Mothers’ as well as NON-mothers.

You hear the saying ‘being a parent is the hardest job in the world’, but I can say from experience that N.O.T.H.I.N.G is harder than wishing you were a parent.

Nothing.

This says it best…

THIS MOTHER’S DAY… be honored and blessed, no matter your situation or walk of life.

Beth, I just wanted to say that I admire how you and Nick have handled the path you were given to the girls! You are both wonderful young people and I know well the whirlwind of feelings you both went through. I am 50 now, and have one daughter after going through fertility treatments and feel as blessed as you do still and my girl is 24. Just wait until you see the girls grow into amazing young ladies. It will blow your mind that you were given this extraordinary experience! Continue to treasure the experience and the amount of love that can grow from it! <3

I just posted my IVF story on my blog and quoted your ‘being a parent is the hardest job in the world’, but I can say from experience that N.O.T.H.I.N.G is harder than wishing you were a parent. I hope you don’t mind– I did link it up to your blog of course and gave you credit!

I love how empathetic you are to the wishful mothers that exist. On Wednesday my sister Gina had her first baby. She had been trying for 5 years. All her friends are working on baby number 2 or 3, and here she is barely getting her perfect miracle. She is over the moon. She has been waiting for so long, and appreciates this sweet soul so much. It gives people like me hope 🙂
Happy Mother’s Day! I hope your day with your girls is perfect!

I found the “Messy Middle” blog post earlier this week through a Facebook friend and since I am currently dealing with my own infertility journey right now, I shared it only to get a couple of angry responses from some of my Facebook friends who are mothers. I can’t help but wonder how people can be so insensitive? It hurts…And rude people only make it worse. Thank you for posting this…It helps to know that there are others out there (mothers even!) who were inspired by this blog post.

I feel for you. Those who are blessed with better luck, sometimes forget that there are others who aren’t as much. The best thing is to just ignore those response and do what feels right in your heart, isn’t it? A book I once read said there are young souls and there are old souls. The old ones seem to have tougher lives, like kids in higher grades facing tougher challenges compared to those in younger grades. So, whenever I come across people who seem to have easier life and want to criticize mine, I just ignore them as young inexperienced souls.

Thank you for this, I’m in a tough spot this year, I’ve previously struggled and am now almost 31 weeks and wondering what to do for my friends.

Would it be ok If I used this on my blog on Sunday? Of course with links to you.
