Monday greetings to you! Did you all have a glorious weekend? It’s HOT outside, no?
Last year, Nick and I cancelled our Netflix subscription over the summer because we wanted to be encouraged to do other things than be in front of the tube. We tend to get a lot more accomplished, and we get along better… weird? Yes!
But THIS summer, we vowed not to watch any TV whatsoever! …with the exception of an occasional Redbox movie rental. It just feels right. And we’re setting a good standard for our daughters! It might sound a little crazy, but you should totally try it. Even if it’s just for a week! Nick and I have been enjoying reading to each other, and we spend 10 minutes every night tidying up the living room and kitchen so we don’t wake up to a mess the next morning. And last night, we sat on the front porch and watched the sun set beyond the layers of fields in the distance, listening to the Cicada’s buzz and seeing the fireflies come out. It was beautiful.
Well anyhow, I have a little furniture makeover to share today… we named her Hexy. Cause she’s so darn HEXY! …As in hexagonal.
We found her at this weird store at the mall that has random clearance stuff. I think it was called ‘A Little of Everything’. She was only 6 dolla, and the spirit moved me to bring her home.
After removing hardware/hinges, I sanded Hexy lovingly to prepare her for primer.
After priming, I painted her this gorgeous creamy-delicious Celery color by Krylon.
Since Hexy has those six openings on each side, I wanted to put a little something in each one to add some detail and visual interest! Nick cut me a template out of cardboard.
I had found this awesome vintage tablecloth at a thrift store a couple weeks ago, and it looked awesome with the Celery color of Hexy! So I drew out my quadrants on the backside, using the cardboard template, and cut them out! (leaving lots of sweet floral tablecloth for another future-project!)
I used my Elmer Multi-Purpose Craft Adhesive, and lightly sprayed the back of my panels.
And pressed the fabric into the opening, using a credit card so smooth it out.
And voila! My little Hexy end table is finished! (notice Nick reading to me in the corner!) hehe…
I love the charcoal gray, mustard and celery green combo. This would look awesome in a living room that has mustard throw pillows!

You could use Modge Podge to apply the fabric, and again on top to seal it!
I love this idea. I would like to make something similar but I am concerned about the durability of the fabric attached with glue. Will it come off over time and is there anything I could put over it to seal it?

A few weeks ago, our local yard sale fb page had these great hexagon tables for sale, 2 for $10. My boyfriend looked at me like I had lost my mind when I brought them in the house, but I asked him to just trust me. I’m (patiently) waiting for my little one to head back to school so I can tackle it, and I’ve been thinking of what I wanted to do. I was pleasantly surprised by your latest design, and after I showed my boyfriend your hexagon table, he now thinks I’m a little less nuts!
We have never had a tv in our home and never had one growing up. Our kids have all been big readers and gotten good grades. And, not exposed to all the junk out there, like violence, drugs, sex and alcohol. Its worth it.
