Glaze doesn’t HAVE to be brown

February 13, 2012 by Bethany Sy

So we picked up this vanity on craigslist for $35. I instantly loved all the detail and grooves it had in the drawers and on the mirror.

We sanded down the top surface to see if we loved the woodgrain or not. The combo of exposed wood combined with paint has been growing on me.

Then we taped off the top real good…

And after being primed…

…this bad boy got doused in Rustoleum Oregano… which is a really unique AWESOME shade of green!

And as you’d expect, we glazed… in WHITE! That’s right! You heard me!

It provides this subtle, fresh, delicate detail that feels so soft and, well… amazing.

Why should anyone feel limited to glazing only with black or brown?

You’ll have to excuse the coloring in these final photos. It was cloudy outside, and the dern thing looks more gray than green. Super frustrating! Use your imagination please!

Have you ever tried glazing in a unique color?

Do you tint it yourself? I want to try some colorful glaze over cream paint but was thinking I might have to tint myself since all the glaze I’ve found is brown or grey or off-white

Yes we just used clear ‘technique glaze’ and tinted it according to the instructions on the can.

I am in the process of using a watered down Paris Grey glaze over Duck Egg Blue and finishing up with white wax. Looks lovely and faded so far. 🙂

love the detailed pics of how you glaze – I have heard that you can use watered down paint to glaze, so I want to try doing blue glaze on white paint on an old picture frame I have hanging around…
