Mirror Makeover

June 23, 2010 by Bethany Sy

Our downstairs bathroom was one of the first things we tackled after moving to the homestead, understandably so. We’re stoked about the results, and it’s turned out to be one of our favorite redo’s so far.

Subconsciously though, I’ve been keeping my eye out for a new bathroom mirror, because ours is super… bland. It’s just a square beveled mirror with these tacky ghetto plastic things holding it up. It wasn’t an eyesore or anything, just somewhat pitiful and lacking in classiness and creativity.

I dreamed up this easy fix for the bathroom mirror dilemma. Just a couple 1×4 Aspen boards and two coats of chocolate brown paint (coordinating with the vanity and mural). We whipped this one up in one evening!

And I love the outcome. I just told Nick… there’s not a single mirror I can picture that I would prefer over our mirror. It’s perfect! And exactly what I was envisioning!

Modern and classic all at the same time! Well worth the $9 it cost us! Better? Do you think? Yes?

I love the brown cabinets and want to copy them. Can you tell me how you did it and with what type of paint?

Hi Renee! We did away with the clear plastic things, and secured the wood directly to the wall. We used a router and a keyhole bit to ‘slide’ the wood onto screws on the wall. It’s super secure! If that’s confusing to you, you can email me for more process photos… sywassink@gmail.com

I love what you did to your mirror. Can I ask you how you attached the wood to the mirror? Did you leave the plastic clips under the wood? I have the same ugly mirror as you did before you started. What a great idea! Renee’

I love it! We have a mirror just like this in our bathroom and I’ve been trying to find a replacement. I haven’t been able to find something that wasn’t crazy expensive (because of the size I’d need). I think I like this idea much better!
