Chris’s Backsplash

April 25, 2011 by Bethany Sy

Happy Monday! Did anything exciting happen this weekend? I painted a backsplash, attended my own baby shower, celebrated Easter by eating, finished the crib bumper, painted the nursery closet, and finished glazing and poly-ing a dresser we’ve been working on! Ambition can be good, but I’m sure my back will be cursing me for the early parts of this week.

Let’s get to the point here though… Chris’s backsplash is actually one we painted whilst in Minnesota a few weekends ago. We’re behind on posting backsplashes since we often do more than one a weekend these days.

She had a huge kitchen with tons of natural light. And with many of her accents being black and cranberry, we all decided to incorporate those colors right into the backsplash! And instead of having fancy accent tiles or elaborate mosaics, Chris wanted to let the colors speak for themselves and chose a simple horizontal grid.

Here are the before and afters:

We had to use the flash on the camera in order for the true colors of the backsplash to show, but if you can ignore how the cabinets and counters are glowing… isn’t this an amazing transformation?! For the sake of comparison, here are the before/afters withOUT the flash. See how we lose the vibrant colors? poo… A new camera may be in order.

Had Chris opted for real tile, she may have searched high and low for black and cranberry tiles to incorporate in with the natural stone, and maybe never found any! That’s the beauty of paint my friends. So custom!

Have you been throwing paint around lately? A mural or a piece of furniture? Or maybe your own backsplash?! We’d love to see photos!

My husband and I got a dresser off craigslist for our little one due any minute now. It was just stained a dark color. Never having painted furniture before, I slapped on primer and then color. Turns out – that’s NOT how you do it… So, on went the paint stripper, then the sanding… and now I am ready to reprime, and then I have the BEST green color paint picked out ready to splash on! Once we’re done, I’ll post pictures!! Can’t wait for it to be finished!

Love the transformation…now she should paint the stove black! Sounds crazy – but my neighbor used appliance paint and painted all of her appliances. It’s amazing what you can do with paint…!
